H2Oh Yeah!The Power of Hydration

H2Oh Yeah!The Power of Hydration

It's no secret that our bodies are made of mostly water...anywhere from 50-70 percent. While humans can go about three weeks without food, they can only go about four days without water. Water is one of the most important substances on earth, as all animals and plants need it to survive. Drinking more water is one of the easiest (easy, yesssss! Bring it on!) things we can do to improve our health! And improve it quickly!

Overall Health benefits

Proper hydration boosts huge health benefits. It helps keep our joints lubricated, body temperature regulated, digestive systems working at top speed, and eliminates toxins just to name a few bennies!

Not drinking enough water can cause sleepiness, sunken eyes, dry skin, low blood pressure, rapid heart rate and breathing, as well as headaches and irritability. (Yikes. No, thanks!) You'll be sharper, feel better and have a more beautiful glow when you increase your water intake. Cellular respiration, the series of metabolic reactions that transforms food nutrients into energy, actually relies on water- talk about important! Water also cushions the organs in our bodies. And our brains require more water than any other part of the body...remember, brain cells are made up of about 85% water. You'll be happier and have more energy when you drink up!

Digestion

Water helps the body digest soluble fiber...which helps digestion tremendously. Drinking more water speeds up digestion. Keeping our digestion rolling is one of the best ways to keep toxins out of the body! (Get out!) Water also makes vitamins and minerals more soluble and helps food actually fuel the body.

Skin and Beauty

Skin is the body's largest organ, and just like any other part of the body, is made up of cells that are made up of water. We need water to help our organs function best. Skin needs hydration and will have a more beautiful glow and suppleness, and more resilience with water! Drink UP!

Detoxification

Water is essential for flushing toxins. And also vital in keeping the intestines smooth and flexible which basically helps...ummm...everything!:) All of this helps with digestion, keeps the body "clean" and improves overall health and feel-good vibes!

We know you're thinking about this part now...so here's a few easy ways to drink more water:

  • Keep a bottle of water with you all the time. (in your bag, on the counter near your keys, in your gym bag, etc)
  • Try flavoring your water with cucumber, mint, orange, basil, lemon or lime...This can help you consume more water and make proper hydration more enjoyable.
  • Set a reminder to drink water on your phone! (daily, even hourly alarms are power!)
  • Eat more fruits and veggies...many have uber-amounts of H20...some top choices are watermelon, zucchini, tomatoes and strawberries.
  • Start every morning with a large glass of lemon water. (literally water with fresh lemon squeezed into it)

TIP- for every cup of water or tea, have two glasses of water. And if you're having a beer, cocktail or glass of wine, it's important to amp up your water too!
